Dan’s Fund for Burns, a registered burns charity was established by Polly Miller after her husband Dan, best friend and seven other friends were killed in the 2002 Bali bombings. Polly was badly burned herself and learnt first hand just how painful and devastating, both physically and emotionally, it is to be burned. A major burn injury can be a lifetime sentence. Recovery often involves prolonged hospitalisation and lengthy rehabilitation as well as on going psychological help with the trauma, pain and major scarring.
Although UK Burns Units provide the most amazing and expert care, there is an ongoing need for further support particularly after discharge where survivors can find themselves isolated and misunderstood.
Dan’s Fund for Burns offers practical help to burn survivors and families in the UK in many different ways such as covering transportation costs, job retraining, morale support, encouraging Support Groups, and not least including funding vital equipment for Burns Units when the NHS is unable to do so.
