Rob Small is a burns survivor, adventurer, speaker and business owner with a passion for the great outdoors. He has always had a desire to explore the world and has been lucky enough to have lived in many remote island paradises.
These locations include the Maldives, The Cook Islands, a small island off coast of Belize, Thailand and Zanzibar to name but a few.
He is currently preparing to be the first (non-military) burns survivor ever to walk to the South Pole, The From Fire to Ice Expedition plans to finish Shackleton’s unfinished journey while carrying out medical research on ice, this will be the first time this has been done.
Born in 1979, Rob grew up in the Aberdeen as the eldest of two children. He was educated in the UK and is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, he moved away to the Maldives in order to work in the field of diving.
Over the next 10 years Rob lived and worked abroad. With over four thousand dives and hundreds of pupils, he continued to pass his zest for life and the love of the ocean on to others.
In January 2010 Rob’s life changed forever. Whilst working in Zanzibar the house he was living in caught fire, trapping him inside. With only a 27% chance of survival, over 200 days in hospital, 30 operations (so far) and the pain of having to learn to walk again, Robert is now back to fighting strength again.
He has since returned to the UK where he lives with his girlfriend, Becky, and runs a SCUBA Diving business when not pursuing his next adventure.
